Time-to-Live Support in FMS

3min

Date: 27th September, 2024

We are excited to announce the introduction of the Time-to-Live (TTL) feature for folders in the File Management System (FMS). This enhancement allows users to set a TTL for all files within a folder, ensuring that temporary files are automatically cleaned up after a specified period. Our goal is to improve storage management and efficiency by enabling timely cleanup of unnecessary files.

Supported Features

  • Set a TTL for Your Folders: Users can now define a TTL for folders when creating or updating them, specifying the duration in days (minimum of 1 day).
  • Automatically Applies to All Files: The TTL will automatically apply to all files within the folder, streamlining file management and reducing clutter in storage.
  • Automatic Deletion of Expired Files: When a file’s TTL expires, it will be automatically deleted from both the FMS and associated storage (e.g., S3), ensuring that outdated files do not accumulate.
  • Impact of TTL Updates: If the TTL for a folder is updated, this change will only affect files created after the update; existing files will retain their original TTL unless updated manually.

Use Cases

  • Temporary Project Files: Automatically clean up files related to completed projects by setting a TTL, ensuring efficient storage management.
  • Single-Use Files: Apply a TTL to files intended for one-time use, reducing the need for manual intervention and maintaining an organized file system.
